Project Description

“Being able to communicate more easily made a big difference for me. Vocolair helped me feel more connected to the people around me.”

Sergio, Patient

“I’ve tried other speaking valves before, but Vocolair felt more comfortable right away. I was able to speak in full sentences and felt like I was getting more air.”

Evan, Patient

Vocolair™ is the first and only speaking valve engineered specifically for ventilator use. Vocolair™ leverages controlled fluidic resistance and flow path geometry to influence the direction of exhaled gas. When the cuff is deflated, the relative resistance across the device compared to the upper airway results in preferential redirection of exhaled flow through the upper airway, enabling phonation. When the cuff is inflated, the upper airway is isolated and the device presents minimal resistance, allowing normal bidirectional ventilator flow.

  • Cuff up Compatible-Designed to remain in-line within the respiratory circuit, Vocolair speaking valve allows ventilation to continue without requiring device removal. During mechanical ventilation only, the device may remain in place in both cuff-inflated and cuff-deflated conditions. This configuration reduces reliance on manual removal during care transitions and helps limit exposure to unintended use conditions. Speech requires a fully deflated cuff.

  • In-Line Design-the Vocolair™ speaking valve is designed for in-line placement within the respiratory circuit, allowing respiratory support to continue without routine circuit disconnection. This configuration facilitates integration into standard mechanical ventilation and High-Flow Oxygen Therapy setups.

  • Optimized Workflow-Designed to remain in-line during transitions to and from speech, the Vocolair™ speaking valve supports use across cuff conditions, ventilation modes, and High-Flow Oxygen Therapy. This configuration reduces the need for repeated circuit manipulation during routine patient management.

  • High-Flow Oxygen Therapy Compatible-the Vocolair™ speaking valve has been evaluated for use with the Airvo™ High-Flow Oxygen Therapy system (Fisher & Paykel), including Optiflow™ interfaces.
